TDM #4

ARRIVAL

It happens in an instant. A heavy weight in your gut, a trembling of your limbs, the world spins and you barely have time to register that you're falling before you lose consciousness. And when you awaken, it's not where you were last. Dark, unadorned oak walls surround you in a tiny room, the only furniture the bed you are currently resting upon, and the bedside table with a folded piece of parchment resting atop it that simply reads:

“The Tavernkeeper is awaiting your arrival downstairs.”

As you exit you find others like yourself emerging from the surrounding rooms. You are indeed in a tavern, but there is no hustle and bustle one might think to hear in such a place. The only person down on the main floor is a humanoid figure wiping down the bar, who smiles when they see you. They're familiar, but not, and you can't quite place their face. For some reason, however, their presence is comforting and warm.

“Welcome, Visitor. I'm sure you have a lot of questions.

And you most certainly do.

Due to popular demand, the starter tavern and the drinks provided are available to in game characters via a portal accessible only to those with a faction gem.

DRINK MENU
WINTER'S WHISPER A fragrant spiced tea that calms the nerves and inspires the drinker to share their hopes and dreams.

JINGLE BELL A crisp, bright drink...that makes jingling bell sounds as you walk. There are no bells, and yet you jingle.

S(LAY) RIDE This drink has an earthy, woody taste. Almost as woody as the tavern floor it forces you to lie down upon. You cannot get up unless someone else helps you.

MISTLETOE MEAD Made with honey from enchanted bee hives and a touch of mistletoe leaves. Time to find a smoochin' partner!

HOLLY JOLLY SPICE A bold and fiery blend of rum, cinnamon, and cloves with a secret twist—just a dash of enchanted holly berry syrup that makes your cheeks flush with warmth and your laughter contagious. One sip, and you're the life of the party, even if you're by yourself.

CANDY CANE CRUSH A festive burst of minty sweetness with a cool, refreshing sensation that tingles the tongue. The drinker’s mood subtly shifts the color of their surroundings, briefly changing the hues of objects or lights in the room to match their feelings.

GINGERBREAD MAN A thick drink that tastes exactly like a gingerbread cookie. However, candy and other delicious accents start appearing on you as if YOU were the cookie. Is that icing on your nose? Candied cherries in your hair? Gumdrop buttons? But on the bright side, free candy!

CHOOSE YOUR DESTINY

As the effects of your drink wear off, the Tavernkeeper speaks once more:

”It is time, my friends, for you to find your new homes.”

You are compelled to walk through the only door leading out of the tavern, finding yourself not outside, but in a deep black, seemingly endless room with five portals arranged in a circle. As the last of you leave and the door closes behind you, gone when you look back again and replaced with nothing but that black void, three of the portals illuminate:

The first portal is surrounded by an almost blinding light, prismatic rainbows shining brightly in the dewy air outside of the tavern. A soft breeze may gently caress you, pulling you toward it. The portal seems to lead to a city in the clouds, airships and winged beings of all sorts soaring through the skies. Of the little bits of visible land, much of it boasts giant waterfalls that look like clouds melting into the land below. The portal calls to those who crave independence and freedom; and especially to anyone that wishes to find the strong bond of a family not forged in blood.

The second portal is encircled by a fairy ring of spotted white capped mushrooms, the faint scent of damp stone and rich earth wafting from within the faint green glow. Peering inside, one can see a sprawling harbor city of gray hewn stone, a melting pot of humanoid beings going about their day, and beyond, rolling green farmland and cottages clustered in small villages. This portal is destined for those who crave stability and solid ground beneath their feet. A simple life, an adventurous one, and everything in between can be found within.

The last portal is adorned with shells and seaweed, the glow of blue around it catching on droplets cascading down the circular opening. Beyond it you see a city housed inside a massive bubble deep under the ocean, spiraling towers encrusted with coral, and a variety of different creatures mingling about the streets. Outside of that bubble, merfolk swim, a massive squid engulfs the view from the portal as it smoothly glides through the water, and schools of fish disperse as it passes. A sanctuary in the sea that calls to those with a hunger for knowledge and a desire to aid those in need. Or perhaps it is the mystery that beckons you - the lure of the unknown in the depths that bids you explore it.
Upon following the pull of the breeze through the first portal, you are thrust into the beauty of a lively city that goes by the name of Heaven's Bow. Much of this main city feels exactly as you would expect on a city below, but there are clouds surrounding every direction you look. The walls of buildings are made with light-colored limestone, and buildings are generally built up to heights made even more grandiose by their position in the sky.

The Skyfall Docks are the first thing you notice, boasting hundreds of airships sailing in and out across the clouds with shouts that accompany a typical port city. Just outside is a fantastic market with goods not only from the other regions of Caldera, but from what some shopkeepers claim are other worlds--items sold or left behind by Visitors. Almost anything can be found in the markets if one is willing to look hard enough. Transport to other locations throughout the sky and even to the land or sea can be found here.

If the docks are too lively for you, you may instead find yourself roaming the underbelly of Heaven's Bow and finding brothels and gambling parlors filled with the promise of pleasure and fortune. The guild house for the Sylphs can be found here as well, giving out quests and training to prospective adventurers and guards alike--though none of them seem concerned with the illicit activities that surround them. Perhaps the freedom the Sylphs boast of extends to what others may deem an undesirable activity.

But most curious of all, you find a shimmering opal gemstone in your hand. When placed anywhere on the body, it will transform into a piece of jewelry with the gemstone set in the center.

If it was the second portal that called to you, you will find yourself in the busy city of Grey Ward, with its cobblestone streets and sturdy grey stone buildings. You are in the heart of the city, the Glass Market, so named for the colorful stained glass windows of the surrounding buildings. The scent of cooking food and the sound of barkers fills the air; watchful guards keep an eye out for pickpockets and thieves, and citizens go about their day. From here, one can investigate the rest of the city: the Sundown Docks, where both sea and sky faring skips transport people and goods. The Soot Spire, home of inventors and engineers. The Hearthstill, the main residential area. The Downs, a smaller residential area for those with less means.

Outside the city walls, one can explore acres of farmlands to the east and west, or follow Terra’s Pass to the less settled areas, but take care. Past the Skyward Range, out in the smaller burrows and villages, the influence of the city guard diminishes quickly, and you’ll have to keep your wits about you. Bandits along the road are always a risk, and the wildlife are less controlled by regimented hunting.

In your hand is a gemstone, a brilliantly green emerald that, when placed anywhere on the body, will transform into a piece of jewelry with the gemstone set in the center.

If the last portal beckoned you through it, you find yourself within that bubble covered city beneath the sea, the city of Salt Spire. Your ears pop with the change in pressure, and the smell of the salty sea fills your nostrils. All around you buildings made of dark stone encrusted with coral and seagrass tower high above your head, the backdrop outside the dome a deep blue, seemingly endless sea filled with fish and merfolk and all other manner of creature swimming through the water. You stand in the heart of it all, surrounded by people with gils on their necks and scales upon their vibrantly colored skin, all of whom seem intrigued by your arrival. You have many options of where to visit in the city under the sea, but where oh where will you go first?

The Salt Spire Library is right before you, an impossibly large building housing thousands upon thousands of books of all genres. Fiction, non-fiction, romance and mystery and all between. You may even find books from your world and others! Oddly enough though, no Calderan history books are to be found, and if you ask for them, the librarians and locals all choose to ignore your questions.

If scholarly pursuits aren't to your interest currently, perhaps a trip to Bluetide Market would be more your style? The marketplace is host to every manner of shop one might ever need: artisans of all varieties, apothecaries and healers in the Shimmer Quarter, the most in fashion undersea clothing shops, food stalls, and all between can be found in Bluetide. There are also the Tideshore and Fogbottom docks on either end of the city. The former allows transport to the surface via large, magical bubbles for those that cannot hold their breath or make the swim themselves yet. The latter allows people to venture further into the sea. Those without their underwater abilities are offered rebreathers for travel that last for four hours before needing to be replaced.

In your hand is a gemstone, a shining sapphire that, when placed anywhere on the body, will transform into a piece of jewelry with the gemstone set in the center.

Visitors in all starter cities are offered a standard home with basic necessities provided (your choice in design, etc.) that can house 1-4 people if they so choose. Home upgrades can be purchased via rewards.

FANNING THE FLAMES
The renewed seething of the lava flows brought on by the tempestuous events deep below the sea seem to have been dealt with, though city guards have been stationed around the crater and are barring anyone from approaching to investigate any further than the outskirts. Interestingly, not only does the crater seem calm, it appears to be changing. Any remaining lava flow is being directed as if by unseen hands, and when the light catches just right, the barest hint of a shimmer can be detected surrounding the glowing rivers. New rock formations take shape as the days pass, though one never can catch the presence of a mason working on the structures. It's as if something intangible or invisible is repairing what was broken, turning what was previously chaos and ruin into order and life.
SEASON OF LIGHT
The world remains unsettled, still bearing the scars of the trials endured just a month prior, not to mention the oddities happening with the volcanic crater and the ominous shadows creeping in from the sea continue to haunt the collective psyche, leaving both locals and visitors on constant edge, fearful of a sudden, unprovoked assault. Despite these lingering anxieties, the leaders have publicly reassured all that calm has been restored. They claim that the worst is behind them and that every measure is being taken to prevent such devastating magics from ever threatening Salt Spire again. The protective bubble holds, new Undine are being ushered into their roles, and the world, it is said, is slowly healing. Or so they claim.

Whether or not the assurances of the leaders ring entirely true, life, as it often does, presses on. The people of Caldera have once again immersed themselves in the comforting bustle of distraction, turning their attention to the imminent Season of Lights celebrations. This holiday, it seems, bears a striking resemblance to the festive cheer of Christmas (and a mix of new years), with gifts exchanged in abundance and decorations of shimmering silver and radiant blue casting their glow across the sky, sea, and land in harmonious splendor.

One of the seasons's highlights is the grand Feast of the Sky, a night when the people gather beneath a star-filled canopy to exchange gifts—ornate trinkets, hand-crafted items, and tokens of affection that carry deep personal meaning. In the days leading up to the feast, a tradition of "Lightwalking" emerges, where families and friends embark on midnight strolls through streets aglow with lanterns, singing carols and sharing stories of hope and renewal. Sea-going vessels, too, partake in the festivities, their sails and riggings festooned with glowing orbs that drift like stars across the waters.

The Season of Lights is, above all, a celebration of resilience, a time when the people of Caldera set aside their worries, if only for a little while, to bask in the glow of community, generosity, and the promise of brighter days ahead thanks to the Visitor's arrival...
THE GRAND MASQUERADE
Another highlight of the season is the Grand Masquerade that unfolds high above the world in Heaven’s Bow, the floating city where the wind dances in the sky and the stars seem close enough to touch. The event is more than just a celebration of the Season of Lights—it’s a gathering of hope, a last-ditch effort to save Caldera from its slow unraveling. Here, among the clouds and the wind, the people of Caldera and the mysterious Visitors from other worlds come together in a shimmering, ethereal celebration, their faces hidden behind elaborate masks and appropriately fancy dress provided when one steps through the threshold of the castle gates.

The palace at the heart of Heaven’s Bow is a breathtaking sight, its walls adorned with silver and blue decorations that catch the light from thousands of lanterns floating in mid-air. The atmosphere is both jubilant and tense, a world on the brink of collapse holding its breath in the hopes that this fleeting night will offer a glimmer of salvation. The sky above is painted with the colors of dusk and dawn, swirling in a palette of purples, blues, and silvers.

Sylphs—the free-spirited, airborn people of the Sky—flutter about, their wings glinting in the light, performing acrobatic feats in the air, their laughter and music mingling with the sounds of the celebration. Guests, their masks intricate and stunning, move among the crowd, exchanging pleasantries and stories, some joining in the dances while others linger near the grand tables, laden with food and drink from every corner of Caldera and beyond.

As the night unfolds, the guests find themselves drawn into different corners of the event—each space offering the Visitors a chance to prove themselves worthy of the leaders’ favor. There is no shortage of opportunities to learn, grow, and, perhaps, change the course of this dying world.
THE SKY'S ASCENSION

At one end of the palace's terrace, a floating platform hovers above the clouds, surrounded by shifting air currents. Sylphs glide effortlessly through the space, their wings leaving trails of light as they move to the lively music, which seems written by the wind itself.

Aella, Admiral of the Slyph, stands at the center of the platform, her cloak of shimmering feathers rippling in the breeze. She surveys the crowd, inviting those brave enough to take part in her challenge. Before them, a maze of floating platforms stretches out, some wide and stable, others narrow and swaying in the wind. The task is simple: leap from one platform to the next, navigating the shifting air and ever-changing obstacles.

The platforms move unpredictably, some rising higher, others sinking, and a few disappearing entirely. Guests must time their jumps perfectly, balancing agility with timing as they avoid falling into the clouds below.

Those who succeed will earn Aella’s favor (in the form of 100 Bones and a single white feather). And those who falter will simply reappear the start of the challenge to begin anew or give up with no repercussions for the latter save perhaps a bit of embarrassment.
THE SEA'S SECRETS
On the other side of the terrace, a serene water garden unfolds, its shimmering pools reflecting the stars above. Water flows in delicate, endless cascades, filling the air with a soft, soothing melody that mingles with the distant sound of waves. The Undines, graceful and serene beings of the Sea, glide effortlessly through the space, their robes flowing like gentle currents, their movements as fluid as the water itself.

Cordelia, Queen of the Sea, stands quietly on a raised platform at the edge of the garden, her presence calm and powerful. Her eyes, deep and unfathomable, seem to reflect the vastness of the ocean, and though she watches the guests, she does not engage with them. Her stillness holds an air of mystery, as if she is both present and yet unreachable.

The Undines move silently through the garden, offering peaceful company to those who wander nearby. The garden is a place of contemplation, where guests can simply pause and connect with the tranquil beauty of the water—its soothing flow, its quiet depths, and its promise of renewal. There are no tests or challenges here, only the peace of the Sea to calm the mind and soul.

Those who linger may feel the weight of ancient knowledge in the air, a silent understanding of the oceans' mysteries and the healing power of water. In this place, the answers are not spoken, but felt—a quiet reminder that some of the world’s deepest truths are best discovered in moments of stillness.

As the evening fades, those who have found solace in the garden’s stillness will discover, tucked gently in their palm, a lustrous pearl. Unlike any found on the shores, this pearl is soft and warm, its surface shimmering with an inner light. It is a symbol of the wisdom that comes from quiet reflection—the knowledge that some things, like the depth of the sea, cannot be rushed.
THE LAND'S EMBRACE

In the heart of the palace gardens, beneath a canopy of flowering trees, the Dryads drift gracefully among the guests, their earthy skin glowing with life and their eyes bright with the vitality of nature. The air is thick with the scent of blooming roses and jasmine, while the ground beneath the guests' feet pulses with a quiet energy, inviting them to pause and feel the garden’s magic.

Terra, the Lady of the Land, stands at the center, her form adorned in living vines and blossoms, moving as if the garden itself flows through her. Her presence is both nurturing and fierce, a silent invitation to those seeking connection—to the land, to love, and to one another.

Guests are drawn to the tranquil beauty of the garden, stealing soft moments with their partners among the flowers. Lovers exchange quiet glances, touch petals with gentle fingers, and share unspoken promises beneath the soft glow of lanterns. The garden hums with romance, as if the earth itself is blessing these tender moments, offering the quiet assurance that love—like the land—can grow in the most unexpected places.

As the night draws to a close, Terra’s gentle power is felt in the air, and for those who have taken the time to connect with the garden’s beauty, a soft gift of nature is bestowed. A flower—unique and radiant—appears in their hand, a token of love and growth, a reminder that even the briefest moments can take root and blossom into something everlasting.
QUESTBOARD [NEW QUESTS ADDED]

Settled in? Good. It's time to make your way to the Questboard located in every city in numerous, easy to access locations. That is, if you want to make any kind of impact on the world or just get some Bones for anything you might wish to purchase. Visitors are given a very small stipend in which to survive every month, but all it does is keep you fed and housed. These quests will assure you greater wealth, and they're the main reason you're here: each finished quest helps the Calderans fix their shattering world.

Quests can be accepted at the questboard via magically signed parchment upon the board. Just sign your name to accept and the paper will be whisked away... somewhere. You're not actually sure. Probably nothing to concern yourself with.

Once quests are completed, earned Bones will be dropped off at the character's residence by Bonita, the mysterious artisan who has supposedly handcrafted every Bone circulating in Caldera. Please do not speak to her, she startles easily.
OOC NOTES
Welcome to Caldera's fourth TDM! All characters awaken in a strange tavern with nothing save the clothes on their backs, all of their powers stripped, and a piece of parchment directing them downstairs to the Tavernkeeper. There is a thread of all questions answered by the Tavernkeeper here, and if you have more, feel free to ask there for what would be offered ICly.

For OOC questions, please direct themhere.

All locations are available to be explored!

The TDM is game canon and all completed quests can be carried over once accepted into the game.

[ season of light ]

If her time keeping was right, this would be around the same time as Winter's Crest back home. Living in the feywild for years around those from other worlds had her know of other holiday celebrations, so when the decor started coming out, and the locals started talking about the season, she was immediately interested. Winter's Crest reminded her of happier times, of friends, and of home.

For gifts, most were given bags of sugar cookies she baked herself. All visitors who had been pulled here receive them.

For those close to her, special gifts were either purchased or handmade by her (which was a feat, because while she was good at baking, she was horrible at making other things aside from arrows).

Lightwalking has her out most nights, and while she might not be out with her friends all the time, she's out listening and watching everyone else.

[ grand masquerade ]

Fit check: Dress, Mask

Vex'ahlia is never one to turn down a fancy party.

Adorned in gold, Vex walks about the grand ballroom, sampling food from each of the tables and drinks from the far corners of Caldera. Her reason for walking walking, while looking at all of the attractions, was listening. She knew a lot of people had loose lips while drinking, and Vex wanted to find out more from the locals as they partied. There was a saying back home: no secret was safe while Vex was around. There was a reason why she took so easily to the roguish training her brother gave her. While sipping on her drink, she was busy reading lips and putting that expensive elven training her father gave to her to good use.

She won't mind, however, should someone as her to dance.

[ the sky's ascension, or this is what happens when you roll a 37 on your acrobatics check ]

Vex had been watching for a while now, trying to see if there were any patterns with the platforms. As far as she could tell there wasn't any, which would be on par for this place. Nothing could ever be too easy.

While her main attention had been on the course itself, she had been faintly paying attention to those trying to get across. While most her having quite the trouble getting across, there were a few who had made it. As another went forward to try, Vex put her arm to stop them. Stepping forward, Vex tied up the gold dress that she had on for the night, taking off the elaborate shoes she had on. She stretched her shoulders amidst locals in the background saying she wasn't going to make it.

As the first platform came forward, Vex grinned and jumped.

The first few platforms were simple enough - she ran and jumped with ease, bare feet catching the earth and jumping without care. Another platform dropped suddenly, and Vex had to tuck and roll as she landed, immediately up and sprinting for the next platform. She imagined being on her broom, flying through the air and dodging bolts of magic just like years before during many of the battles she had been in.

She landed back on the last platform, nary a hair out of place. Reaching down, she scooped up her heels, putting them back on. "What, like it's hard?"

After seeing the quest on the board, Vex immediately ran to Tara's Tastefuls to see what exactly the owner was talking about. She had her walk through every step of the new product, asking various questions about it. When she was done, Vex took the new sample very eagerly, running back home and knocking on Percy's door.

"Percy, darling! It's Vex. Open up. You and I should have a talk!"

Stiles Stilinski ≠ Teen Wolf ≠ Dryad

[personal profile] causticly 2024-12-01 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
☇ Drinks

The gathering at the tavern provides a much needed reprieve from the happenings of the last few weeks and something else for him to focus on. It was silly to think even this place would be devoid of any real danger, that he'd somehow landed himself in a place that was utterly safe. No place is safe from weird supernatural and magical shit, apparently.

And Stiles is definitely not safe from the 'magical shit' either, considering he keeps landing himself in weird predicaments- even here.

It was going to be just one drink, he told himself. Just one. Just to ease the nerves a bit and take his mind off of things. At least that was the plan until he found himself on the tavern floor staring up at the ceiling. Which at, first he'll admit wasn't terrible, at least until he tried to get up. And realized he couldn't.

"The fuck?" he mutters to himself. Stiles catches movement from the corner of his vision and though he can't see who it is he calls out to them anyway. "Hey, uh, mind helping me up?"

☇ Season of Lights

The bright, festive lights that seem to reach every corner of Caldera leave him with a heavy yet nostalgic feeling. It reminds him of what he's left behind, and those no longer with him, that will never be able to enjoy such visions. It reminds him of holidays when he was younger and his parents would take him around town to look at the lights strewn up along the buildings and houses. Of the hours it would take fighting over where to place the ornmanets on the tree and who got to put the star on top.

He pauses in the middle of the street and looks up to the starry night sky and wonders what his dad is doing right now. Scott and the others? Would it be Christmas-time there, too?

☇ The Grand Masquerade

He wasn't originally going to attend, but the curiosity to see what the floating city is like was too great for him to ignore. Plus he'd finally bought some new clothes, at least one nice outfit, and decided this would probably be the only time he would ever realistically be able to wear it. So why not? Why shouldn't he do something a little fun for himself once in awhile?

Stiles doesn't, however, expect the provided mask to be such a slap in the face. He snorts derisively and looks up at the attendant, brow raised. "Really? Nothing else you could have given me?" he asks, but when he's just ushered off, having been given a mask, he scowls. After a moment of hesitation he ties the mask on and heads further inside, following the jovial music filtering through the castle.

[Note: when hearing of gift giving, Bel is learning to knit. His first products he is keeping (because the aren't that great), but expect a hat or scarf if you are someone he regularly talks to.]

Grand Masquerade

[Outfit; Mask]

Bel actually enjoys socializing, and he's feeling a lot more confident that he is a Visitor who happens to be a drow, and largely that means 'short, grey-skinned, white-haired pointed-eared man' here.

So, he might offer a bow, and a 'would you like to dance?' to a stranger (or a friend), or point people to particular choices of food.

Or he's just watching the winged acrobats and offers, "they really are making a case for having wings."

The Sky's Ascension
Bel's costume is comfortable enough that he doesn't mind ditching the parts that would hinder him and competing to conquer the maze. His first fall is met with a scrabble to grab something, but on finding himself back at the start of the course and uninjured causes him to grin. "Well, I know I can be a bit more daring next time."

[Simon will offer baked goods to anyone he's spoken to, and even some people who he hasn't.]

Grand Masquerade

[Outfit/Mask]

Simon does add in some minor illusions to his clothing, mostly just subtle changes in texture to his clothing and mask. It's largely for the practice, as he had just gotten his full powers back, and he feels rusty.

This is another effort by Simon to keep appearing in public, even as he's still not comfortable in crowds. He's more likely to sit and watch the dancing with a drink and a plate of snacks, and with his back to the wall. He might be willing to dance with a familiar face, or rescue a person who looks more bewildered than him.

He used to be good at this. Maybe some day he'd be good at it again. Until now he's fine with staying near the outskirts.

The Sea's Secrets
As an Undine, Simon figures he should put in an appearance. But it's also true that he finds gardens peaceful, and the ocean reminds him of the people he cares about most. He is working through some of the exercises Dr. Voss from home taught him to manage stray thoughts. He will smile and acknowledge others, but he won't be the first to speak.

The Land's Embrace
Roses are a complicated odor for Simon. His daughter August's magic smells of roses and campfire smoke, but three of the women who hurt him most deeply also had magic that smelled of roses. Bur roses were common in Faerie, so he could cope. Jasmine was less common; Simon didn't have as strong an association with it.

He did try to seek out plants that reminded him of loved ones -- at least those of the land, since Cordelia's garden had held water Lillies and other aquatic plants. Simon is also happy to point out plants to strangers and friends, if they have specific resonances.

Lucifer Morningstar | Hazbin Hotel | Sylph

[personal profile] youknowwhothisis 2024-12-01 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[I. Arrival- Have A Sippy (Pick his poison! All are fine, even the mistletoe)]

Laughs echoed, nights remembered, good times kissed.
A shot downed, a drink savored, a drop of liquid fire.
A toast lifted, a glass raised, a celebration higher...

Generally, he kept to himself for most of this particular evening. But with a little sing-song, the rather audaciously-dressed man began to line up a bunch of pretty little shot glasses. Numbering six in total, they each held a different colored liquid, and he was lining them up in a color order. He couldn't make a fun little rainbow, but he could at least get them in a line that looked nice.

But he sure had been packing the drinks away for a good chunk of the evening, as if they were water. It was enough that the Tavernkeeper was looking at him with a level of quiet concern. Lucifer thought he could ignore them and avoid eye contact, but it eventually was enough to make him itch.

So, with a quiet sigh, he took but three of them and slid them further down the counter to the stranger a few stools down. Then he turned and gestured.

"There, see? Social drinking! We good now? These are my last three. Cross my heart." He offered his best smile. When the keeper turned away, however, the smile turned into sticking his forked tongue out at their back.

He'll stop when he feels like it!

[II. The City in the Clouds]

Did this place bother him immensely? Yes. He hadn't really seen a place like this in a long... long... long... long time. When his eyes adjusted and he bore witness to this place at first, Lucifer had to battle a spike of 'animal brain', a panic that threatened to steal his breath and send him running and reliving old and terrible memories.

Once that (mercifully) passed, he was left feeling a bit sour. Hollow. He supposed that he'd need to deal with that terrible, shining city eventually once he got back home. This could be a means to desensitize, he supposed.

Gotta do it for Charlie.

He could go for a fly, though. That always helped him clear his head. To open his wings was like breathing, and he could just kick off and sail on the next breeze-

WHUMP.

He instead hit the cloud-mixed ground face first. He'd made a rather dramatic hop, like a fool trying to dive into a pool with no water in the middle of the square. After a moment of pause, he scrambled onto his hands and knees, eyes wide. He watched as a thin dribble of gold fell from his lip and dissipated among the clouds, the facial impact cutting the inside of his cheek against one of his teeth.

...What...?

[III. King's Quest]

He ran his hands down his face, hoping it'd give him a 'fresh perspective' when he looked once again upon the board bearing a bevvy of tasks that needed doing. None of them somehow changed, much to his dismay.

...Was that a quest to test lingerie? Do people normally throw their name in for that kind of job around here??

Lucifer sucked in a deep, cleansing breath, held it to a three-count and eased out slowly. Sure, he didn't have his powers. Alrighty, he didn't have his wings... but a challenge was a challenge, and by GOLLY he was no yellow-belly!

He jabbed an amicable elbow against any old individual within reach.

The Grandmaster | MCU | Sylph

[personal profile] amenablelunatic 2024-12-02 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Arrival - Tavern]

You never saw a person come down the stairs with such a bounce in their step. From awakening in a very new place, to finding a note, to feeling different all down to his cells: This is exciting! Like the start of a scavenger hunt. Only he doesn't even know what he's hunting for, at this point.

The more mysterious, the better in his book. It's so rare anything surprises him anymore.

The Grandmaster almost doesn't expect to see a tavern downstairs, much less someone friendly to answer questions. But he asks names, for information, always sounding gregarious in asking and thoughtful of each answer.

He feels practically rewarded for this leg of the adventure, with tasty treats no less! He ultimately selects Holly Jolly Spice.

The thing is: He is perfectly aware that he is under the influence of what he is drinking, as his cheeks flush, his laughter carries. It's hard to catch a guy off guard when he will try anything and every surprise is a gift.

You there! New best friend! Share a drink with him!

[Choose Your Destiny - Heaven's Bow]

The strange man wearing bright colors bounces around the new locale like the happiest of tourists. He wants to see every stall in the markets, watch the airships at the docks, and as the sun begins to wane he's poking his head into taverns and brothels for all kinds of additional fun. Seems like this body gets tired sooner.

Might as well use all that energy before his first sleep in...oh, eons at least!

[Grand Masquerade]

A party, you say? There's a party? Then this guy is there! A tall man crosses the threshold into the castle in a full face-mask and a suit of colors that hearken to a spring and summer he has not seen in this place but he is already dreaming of. He is enjoying the wine, trying everything he has never eaten before and eager to encourage others to do the same.

Fancy a dance? Something sweet?

[The Sky's Ascension]

The Grandmaster loves a good challenge. And he might be in a new body, one that looks very convincingly like his dashingly handsome and perfect former body, but molecule for molecule he is still who he is, and the risk of losing only makes a game better. He is remarkably spry for his apparent age -- and you would not be wrong to think so.

He is also a good deal older than you think he is, by the way. He'll tell you if pressed that he's around a million (this is a lie), and look at him! Why, he doesn't look a day over ten thousand. You are invited to tell him so.

But preferably when everyone isn't hopping from moving platform to platform. In the end he is collecting his bones and his feather with uncontained glee. "Can I go again?"

The Grand Masquerade
Fancy parties weren't typically Karlach's scene. She was much more at home in a run-down tavern with a cadre of companions to get into mischief with.

Did that stop her from enjoying the rare opportunity of being able to go to the party? Nope! Would she absolutely hate wearing a fancy dress and mask as daily wear? Yep!

Was she absolutely enjoying getting to dress up fancy tonight? You bet your ass she was!

Once the shoes that accompanied the outfit had been semi-subtly kicked off to be abandoned in some random corner, the towering tiefling was absolutely enthused to be here, admiring the decorations, the Sylphs above, everyone else's fancy dress in turn.

If someone meets her gaze, or notices her looking, they'll get a crooked smile from her. "Not normally one for fancy digs, but this is some party, eh?"

Jade "the Prophetess" | Enderal: Forgotten Stories | Sylph.

[personal profile] dreamflowers 2024-12-02 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
i. the masquerade
Fancy affairs such as these were never Jade's scenes. Not really. She could sometimes look and play the part (give it take more layers of clothing to cover her body), she could flash a smile and put on a show... but deep down, crowded places never sat well with her.

Especially in places like these, in the company of those who typically believed themselves better than her. But none of the local fancily-dressed snobs seemed to so much as blink at the very visible scars left bare by the violet, star-studded outfit she had picked out for herself, mainly out of defiance, along with a similar crow-shaped mask like the one she had crafted to ward off the Veilwalkers. Or maybe it's the same one...?

What more, her usually braided hair is left down for a change. In its current state, her black tresses flow down below her waist, adorned in more stars with her usual feathers tied in her hair (no one was ever convincing her to take those out).

At some point, maybe after some glasses of liquid courage, Jade finally manages to work up the nerve to approach someone who catches her eye. With an exaggerated bow, she lifts a gloved hand, offering to take theirs into her own. "Mind if I have this dance? That's what fancy people are supposed to say at these affairs, yeah?" Her lopsided smile betrays just how out of place she truly feels here.

ii. quests
Having regained the full potential of her magic not too long ago, Jade's options feel more open than ever. Of course, that doesn't mean she's confident enough to hack it alone -- she isn't that stupid.

Besides, maybe this is her chance to help someone else out? And she sure does enjoy making herself useful these days.

"Well? Anything catching your interest?" Jade arches a brow when she sees that she's not the only one shopping for choice. It could be that they're also in need of Bones, or perhaps they're bored and looking for adventure. Look no further than the Prophetess, who is more than happy to assist.

John Rambo | FIRST BLOOD/RAMBO Movies {Canon Updated!} | Sylph

[personal profile] theydrewfirstblood 2024-12-02 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
{{Since I lost the plot in November, I've retroactively canon updated my boy. He's been gone the last week or two of the month, and this is his inglorious return! He's now from the end of the second movie, meaning he's suffered a tremendous amount of abuse and loss, content warnings for death, torture, and military abuse/brutality. He's also changing factions, so John is now Sylph. :D}}

Arrival

When he wakes up, he's not in the straw bed of the stable the kind old Thai couple offered him for the night in exchange for fixing a broken wagon wheel the day before. He's in...a pretty familiar bed. With a pretty familiar note...

He worried that he was losing his damn mind--but it was real. All of it.

Heading downstairs this time, he's less nervous, and just...he's tired. Tired and messed up and just fucking done.

He doesn't accept a drink this time. He just finds a table, and for a good couple hours, he just...

...tries, and fails, to find any tears left. Which hurts.

Co deserves better.

Choose Your Destiny

When he comes to the portals, he's ready to go back through the one to take him back to what he thought of as home...but the breeze of that brighter portal tickles his skin, the rainbows catch his eye, and his heart aches with a longing so sharp he can't stand it...

He's gone through it before he can stop himself--and when he finds himself among the clouds, he ends up with a heavy, rounded triangular pendant with an opal set in the middle that reminds him with painful intensity of the weight of Co's Buddha resting against the hollow of his throat.

After that...it's no different from home. He takes lodgings among the brothels and casinos in the seedy end of Heaven's Bow. He briefly returns to Grey Ward to find Delmar--and, of course, Delmar finds him. There's a few tears, then--apparently, there's room for a grim sort of joy, and he can spare a few for that as Delmar nuzzles his face and forces John to carry him around for the remainder of the day.

And he does--the new denizen of Heaven's Bow can be seen walking its streets later, draped in what looks like a fluffy fur stole until one gets close enough to realize the stole is a longhaired black cat roughly the size of a young panther, curled around John Rambo's shoulders like he was born there.

Masquerade/The Challenges

The suit and mask provided by their hosts rankles a little...but not so much that he can't cope.

He's getting entirely too good at compartmentalizing.

John's also not very interested in celebrating a fucking thing, so he keeps to himself mostly. Doesn't eat or drink, that much he still can't get a handle on...but the various corners of the party provide him with a decent distraction.

So he'll be doing all three--feel free to catch him anywhere to...well. Catch up.

[personal profile] somethingveryspecial 2024-12-03 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Season of lights]

Kainé has never seen so many shiny baubles! The sights even have her venturing into town. Back home, she was never privilege to such festivities as she was kicked out of her village as a young girl. They're absolutely beautiful! Of course she takes part in the feast and she may even be convinced to try the lightwalking.

When Kainé learns of the gift giving, she'll get it in to her head to bake various festive sweets to shyly exchange with those she's met in this place who have treated her as a person. People like Finnick, Jade, Imoen, Night Sky, and Tess. She even has some extra in case she meets a kind stranger.

[The Grand Masquerade]

The dress she finds herself in is a splendor she's never experienced, the fabric like nothing she's ever worn before. The mask is an intriguing tradition, but she goes with it. It does sort of help with her anxiety about being around so many people.

Kainé can be seen wallflowering for the most part, though she will also partake of any refreshments; because how can she not? Free food!

[The Sky's Ascension]

She may not be a Sylph, but Kainé is up for the Aelia's challenge! She doesn't have a whole lot of trouble with the course as she's very flexible and in tune with her body regardless of her lack of shade powers. (For better or for worse. ) Kainé looks rather impressive with her acrobatics, managing to evade the winds trying to push her off and not missing a beat even when the islands vanish from under her.

As she crosses the finish line with a flip of flare, she grins with pride.

"Nothin' to it!"

[The Sea's Secrets]

Tranquility is usually hard to come by for Kainé given her inner turmoil both from herself and Tyrann, but the absence of the shade actually allows her to embrace the solace in the water garden's stillness. For the first time in who the hell knows, she feels peaceful, sighing contentedly upon finding the pearl in her open palm.

"Shit..." She breathes, "It's lovely..."

[The Land's Embrace]

Kainé isn't in allegiance to Terra either, but she does find herself camping in the Dryad territory more often than not. It's just more familiar to her. She also appreciates the beauty of the flowers.

Somehow, she finds herself wandering the palace gardens, catching a glimpse of the Dryad leader in all her splendor.

She feels a little forlorn, despite her best attempt to push it back, over the emphasis on love, her heart thinking of someone but refusing to admit there's anything there.

Still, the garden's beauty is soothing and she's touched at the gift of the flower.

Ianto Jones | Torchwood/Doctor Who | Undine

[personal profile] needmetodoanyattacking 2024-12-03 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
The Great Masquerade/The Sea’s Secrets

Ianto attends the party, very pleased with his attire: an impeccable modern looking tuxedo with a filigree half mask in a gunmetal finish that reminds him of something straight from the bowels of the Hub. Granted, it reminds him a bit too much of his early days at One, but thinking of Jack helps him relax.

The smug bastard would probably show up in dress blues and even this place wouldn’t sully a face like his with a mask.

As the night wears on, and especially the “challenge” supplied by Cordelia catches his attention, he finds it easier to relax. He eventually goes looking for friends, a drink, and even a dance or two.

All in all…it’s not a bad way to celebrate the holiday.

QUESTS

Oops All Dragons (Wool & Gems, pick your poison)

When Ianto finds the dragon, with her request…he can’t help it.

He thinks of the star whale.

So he brings every egg he can carry to the local dragon tamer, and he goes looking for the bits and bobs a dragon nursery will need. Fortunately, he’s had a run at the bloody sheep before…unfortunately he didn’t save any of it.

The gems, well…if he finds a partner willing to join him in the mines? It’ll be very much appreciated.

Phero-Moan (NSFW)

Ianto is just planning to head over alone when he sees the notice. It reminds him of the night he spent with Aofie for the benefit of the healers…

And he’s not in the mood to revisit any heartbreak. It’s a brothel. He’ll make do.

He’s three quarters there when he catches sight of someone he recognizes—and ready as he is to just go and earn a few bones (as well as blow off a bit of steam), it’s kind of nice to run into a familiar face. So, he stops, catches their eye, and waves.

“Oi! Fancy seeing you ‘year!”

The Thrill Of The Chase (NSFW)

Ianto’s…on the trail of…of…

…he’s handcuffed to the ceiling, blindfolded, barely coherent and still shaking with the aftermath of his orgasm as Jack nuzzles his ear and checks in—

No. The doppelgänger, he’s trying…trying…

…trying to hold on in the name of sheer principle, because it’s bad enough Jack got himself temporarily cloned but now that he’s got one Jack on his knees, mouth around his cock and the other pressed against his back, playing with his nipples and whispering sweet filth in his ear he’s going to come embarrassingly fast if he’s not careful—

He feels like he’s being ripped in three: focus on the job, and the twin desires being pulled from his memory that are swallowing him up to take someone with a firm hand or give himself to someone to be used and ravaged. He’s hard just thinking about it, he can even call up faces of those he’s seen in this place since he arrived…

By the time he gets close enough to be overpowered, he’s in…an alley somewhere?…on the ground, huddled in on himself…until a hand touches him and he moves without thinking, dragging them close searching for something, anything to satisfy the urges that have consumed his reason.

Arrival/Choose Your Destiny

…this wasn’t on the chessboard. This wasn’t even near the chessboard.

Toying with the heavy emerald ring now living on his right hand, Al Stilinki spends the better part of twenty four hours exploring his new home. It’s…quaint, but it’s actually really nice. It’s a bit of a mess, but he’s got experience with that. He’s rolling with the punches…he’s doing all right.

…yeah, no, he can only manage so much self deception.

He’s stuck in a living fairy tale, while back home his son could be dying.

He needs to get the hell out of here.

Quests

No Skin In The Game

Al has the skin in a bag, on his way to find the young woman…and he’s debating whether or not to say anything. On the one hand, stealing the skin was a rotten thing to do, and yet…

Damn it, poor Draven reminds him a hell of a lot of Stiles.

Find him near the shoreline, deep in contemplation of a burlap sack in his hand. Ask him, please, what the hell he’s doing.

Masquerade

[Fancy parties just weren't a thing in the Wasteland. Well, if they were she was never invited to them. She didn't mind though. She never had been one for fancy parties. Not since she turned 10.

She was expecting the nice dress and pretty mask but what she wasn't expecting was to gain a couple of inches in height. At least they had given her chunky heels to go with the outfit instead of stilettos. She could run and gun in a destroyed city against Super Mutants, but she couldn't move properly in rather low heels.

She also noticed that her dress didn't really have a back. The three claw marks on her back were almost on perfect display. They started at her right shoulder and angled down towards her left hip, covering her entire back. The marks were thin at the ends, but pretty wide at the middle. It really was a miracle that she was still alive today. She didn't really mind that her arms were exposed. She was used to those scars on display, just not her back.

It was also going to take her a long time to get used to these stupid shoes. She wobbled a bit as she took a step and fell right into someone's arms.
]

Shit! Sorry! Thanks for catching me.

The Sky's Ascension AKA Leap of Faith

[Now this sounded fun. Angel was used to jumping around a bit to get through partially destroyed buildings so she was going to give this a try. She had gotten rid of the high heels that she had been attempting to wear during the masquerade and looked over the various platforms, trying to memorize patterns before she began.

Smirking a bit she looked over at some of the others.

🍷 1. ARRIVAL
[Well, this wasn't what Yato was expecting when he woke up today. Being whisked off to some strange world to help save it? Talk about a story that beggars belief! Except for the fact he is indeed not in Japan anymore. He is still wearing a traffic cone with a smiley face on it over his head, though, as he heads downstairs to take a seat at the bar and order a drink. At times like this a bit of anonymity is a good thing.

Don't mind the weirdo sitting down next to you and somehow perusing the menu with this thing on his head...]

🎭 2. GRAND MASQUERADE
[After getting his bearings and acclimating himself to this new world somewhat (along with having a few stiff drinks), Yato finally makes his way to the masquerade, getting all dolled up in a gold mask and tacky red and gold suit. Mostly he's here hoping to gossip with some of the locals or other Visitors to learn what he can about everything that's been happening. Of course, he's not about to turn down the chance for more drinks and snacks, oh hell no!

So as he mingles on the edge of the party, he carries a plate piled high with hors d'oeuvres and a champagne glass that's already half empty, leading to his slightly flushed cheeks. He needs the liquid courage to help get him through the unknown crowds, feeling painfully conspicuous and out of place at such a fancy to-do.

Finally, he works up the nerve to turn to whoever's nearby, addressing them mildly as he stuffs another canape in his mouth. Manners. He lacks them.]

Some party, huh? I've only ever been to one similar in scale and grandeur.

🪶 3. THE SKY'S ASCENSION
[Now this is more his kind of thing! As a god, Yato is naturally lighter and more balanced than human beings, so as he takes to hoping from island to island, it seems easy peasy. At least until the trickier bits when things start moving and shifting about. While he manages the timing of the rising and falling platforms perfectly, it's the disappearing ones that give him grief.

Once, he almost falls as his foot hold vanishes, only managing to quickly leap to the next island by sheer virtue of his cat-like reflexes. There, he pauses to catch his breath, panting heavily... until he spots another person struggling to make their jump and automatically reaches a hand out in order to grab them - YOU - by the hand, stepping backwards as he pulls until both parties are on solid ground. Then he stops again to breathe, sweat trickling down his brow.]

Wow, that was a close call, wasn't it? You almost bit the biggie on that leap!

🐉 4. QUEST: OOPS! ALL DRAGONS!
["Come to the caves" said the message. "This'll be a piece of cake" Yato said. Well, he was wrong If there's one thing these damn cloud sheep are, it's tenacious and stubborn. They kind of remind him of a certain brunette human, actually... Except that Hiyori never headbutted him down a damn hill until the whole world is spinning like a yo-yo on a merry-go-round.

Worst part is, though, on his second attempt, he gets barreled over and sent tumbling into some poor sap named you. Sorry!]

[Fanning the Flames]
Alastor's ear twitched in thought as he studied the lava flow and rock formations. "Curious..."

Before Hell, he'd never seen lava flows before. Even then, there wasn't nearly as much volcanic activity in Pride as there was in Wrath. However, he was fairly certain lava flows didn't work like this...

[Season of Light]
Alastor was dressed to the nines in a dapper suit and top hat. Admittedly, the suit he'd had to make alterations on to better fit himself. For some bizarre reason, suits for seven-foot-and-above-tall Visitors were few and far between. Strange, really. At least he had plenty of experience sewing. Were his stitches always the cleanest? No, but they held and that was the important part.

[Feast of the Sky]
Alastor gazed up at the stars, smile contemplative and content. Stars would never get old in his book. Particularly since there weren't any in Hell and he'd gone for ninety years without seeing them.

He hadn't been around long enough to figure out what people might like so he'd just come to people watch from the sidelines.

[Lightwalking]
True, there wasn't the musical magic of his Hell around to provide the backup music and he sadly couldn't project that accompaniment like he was used to, but on a night like this...well...there was a certain amount of inspiration.

♪♫ That certain night, the night we met
There was magic abroad in the air
There were angels dining at the Ritz
And a nightingale sang in Berkeley Square ♪♫

He soft-shoed along with his singing, enjoying dancing and singing under the stars.

Look out, anybody close by. You might end up grabbed and pulled in to join him.

[The Grand Masquerade]
In addition to his suit, Alastor had put on a deer mask. Him being so tall and distinct, there really was no way to disguise who he was, so he figured that it was best to just lean into the joke.

He walked over to someone attempting to play wallflower, bowed, and extended his hand. "Would you care to dance?"

[The Sky's Ascension]
Alastor spread his arms for balance as he landed on the narrow, swaying platform. He breathed out a sigh of relief as he adjusted to its rhythm. After that first fall, he at least knew he would be perfectly safe, but it was still nerve-wracking.

Though now he kept trying because Alastor was nothing if not stubborn.

He glanced ahead at the person ahead of him. "Far jump ahead? Or just odd timing?"

  • The Winds of Winter (all three tasks)

  • OOPS! All Dragons!

Consciousness slowly came back to Pike Trickfoot. At first it was a tickle to her nose, which she quickly batted her hand across her nose, her head turning and eyes opening slowly, blinking.

What the...

Pike grabbed her symbol at the center of her chest, finding it gone.

"Shit!," She jumped up and hurried out the door.

"Oh sorry," She said, looking up. "I wasn't looking where I was going..."

Drinks
Pike made it up the bar eventually, missing her best buddies, when she had to clamor on a stool to be seen, shaking her head. She was a patient person by nature and waited her turn, getting her Winter's Whisper. She walked slowly around the room, sipping her drink as she went.

Cloud Jumping
Pike looked over the tops of the clouds, taking a deep breath. She must have hit her head on the way into the city because she looked over the expanse of the clouds and wondered how all three feet of her was supposed to make it across in one piece.

"Okay, Pikey... you can do this. You are a Cleric for Vox Machina and you fuck shit up all the time. Time to let the Monstah out. Are you ready for this?"

Masquerade

(Now, parties? Pike wouldn't say she hated them, but she didn't love them either. She didn't have Percy or Vex'halia's grace, nor did she have Scanlan's panache for being the life of the party. [ 1. Arrival & Drinks ]

[Deva is no stranger to taverns. She's also no stranger to waking up somewhere unexpected uncertain of what happened or how she got there -- though the last time that happened, it was a rocky shoreline and she was sure she should have been dead. This time at least she is confident in still being alive, but she has no idea what to make of being swept off to another world entirely. To help somehow?

Even the tavernkeeper's patient answering of her questions doesn't help ease her mind all that much. Neither does the Candy Cane Crush drink, though it is pleasant to drink. Deva hasn't noticed the effects of it yet, and they're subtle. Almost.

They do lead to a strange sight though, as the petite young woman slips into a seat near some other soul in this tavern, all smiles and cheer, an easy warmth that verges on flirtatious -- but the lighting around her is a cold, foreboding red, as if fear and anxiety were following her in a threat display. Deva hasn't noticed.]

Did you just arrive too? This all seems very exciting doesn't it?

[ 2. Season of Light ]

[Ever and always, Deva is drawn to the ocean. It's the world she knows, the one she was born to and grew up within and beneath and beside. So this evening finds the young woman, barely over five feet, wrapped in a cloak that appears to be more of a pelt than any sort of deliberately sewn garment, smooth-furred and softly speckled gray. She holds it close around her, much warmer than the simple belted shift dress she wears beneath.

And she watches the water and the ships with their lights, barefoot and wading into the admittedly chill water. Another step into the water, and now the waves are lapping at her dress. Deeper still, like she fully intends on walking on until she disappears into the water. But she stops just before the water laps at her knees, a soft sob escaping]

Why... why would they take this from me?!

[A sob, but in the words there is a fear and a cold, trembling rage. This place wishes her help but rips half her self from her? Deva would like to speak to the manager.] Give it BACK!

[ 3. Masquerade ]

[Deva is mostly done having her breakdown by the time the masquerade rolls around. Curiosity gets the better of her and she finds herself attending and unexpectedly dressed for the occasion, complete with a mask.

Somewhere along the way she finds herself a drink, and even allows herself to lose herself in the strange revelry. A little. Deva has always loved dancing, and she can't help but feel the pull to the dancefloor even in this odd place.]

Do you dance? [But first she needs a partner.] It'd be a waste to miss the chance...

This is enough to get her up and moving and she scales the stairs quickly, arriving at the tavern and scanning her surroundings. She spots the tavernkeeper, but not Vax. The druid sighs as she tries to work up the nerve to go talk to this tavernkeeper.

Dressed in something of flowing green and a flowery mask, Keyleth enters the ball. She clutches at one arm with a hand as she moves to stand against the wall and sighs.

"It's not as much fun without them..."

Arrival/Tavern

…well fuck.

A rare breed among new arrivals, the blonde man in the tavern as broad as he is tall could easily be a native. His long hair and thicker beard are borderline fashionable in the setting, but there’s…something about him, beyond the fact that you don’t find the natives in this tavern.

Those from a modern world will see it in posture and mannerisms—the tip of the head in the familiar ‘tech neck’ posture, fidgeting with a candy cane like a pen…wait, what?

That’s right: Lance Dulac ordered the Gingerbread Man, with a heavy suspicion as to what he’s getting into, and is enjoying his drink and the bonus sweets utterly unfazed.

Join him! And please, do help yourself to the candy canes and gumdrops he’s harvesting off his clothing—he promises, anything that comes off a body part isn’t in the pile on the corner of his table.

Masquerade

In his suit and mask, Lance looks dashing, and also impossibly comfortable. It’s to the point that, as he moves about the celebration, his hand keeps drifting to his hip and faltering, as if reaching for the sword that ought to be there.

He misses his fucking sword. A lot.

No matter. It’s a great party—little tame by faerie standards, but only if you’re Seelie or Unseelie. In the Court of Man, they would have an enchanted band that would take requests. He’d spend the whole night challenging Mum by making them play classic rock…

A song begins to play—and it’s not “All Along The Watchtower,” but it’s upbeat. It’ll do.

He glances at the closest person nearby, regardless of gender, and smiles as he turns and offers his hand with a perfectly courtly bow—at total odds with his muted East Coast accent.

“You wanna dance?”

tavern's drink menu (gingerbread man)
Haa~ahh. [That grumpy, put-upon sigh? That sound comes from the hooded and masked fellow stalking around the edges of the tavern. How does one even stalk while on those tall, pointed stilts? Or even walk? Some would say "very carefully", but Ithaqua is comfortable enough on them that he walks around as if he were wearing normal clothing, one hand clutching one of the tavern's mugs. His other hand, his right hand, isconstantly flexing, as if seeking something to hold-- or seeking something that should be grasped in it but is no longer there.

Whenever he sips, he tilts his head away from the crowd and faces the wall, so he can lift his mask and drink without anyone seeing his face. It's always a quick sip too, done in a flash just to preserve his privacy. Or mystery?

He's not even that bothered about the candies hanging off of his cloak now, appearing out of thin air like he's some sort of magical factory. In fact, he's up to mischief with those. He plucks a gumdrop from his cloak and throws it at anyone who's looking at him. And then he laughs.]

Heheheh! Now I feel better. [He gives a little bow, even with a flourish of his free arm.] Thank you for the laugh.

season of light
[Streets filled with lanterns? Ithaqua can't help but be drawn to them like a moth. He's missing his lantern after all, as it's more than something that lights his way. One may find some dark figure lurking in the trees and on the rooftops, examining each lantern closely before straightening again and turning around to leave. No, that one is not to his needs either.

But some lucky(?) person may just find that dark shadow snatching a small, portable lantern off of its perch and pressing its masked face against the glass... and then Ithaqua places it on his belt. Shameless!]

If caught staring, he'll raise his head, the ears of his hood flopping before they right themselves.]

Hrrmmm? [A wholly inquisitive sound, as if he hadn't just done something.]

the land's embrance
[Oh, look, there's another couple over there, likely whispering sweet nothings to each other with the way they're wrapped around each other, and Ithaqua turns his head with a noise not unlike an irritated cat. At the very least however, he doesn't trample or bump into whoever is his companion with how fast he whirls around to stop looking at the people he's grumbling about. Those stilts will be unpleasant for anyone who happens to be stepped on.]

Bah, everywhere I look, it's the same thing. [He doesn't mean to be... well, mean, but he's of the opinion that there's a time and a place for that.] Why can't they find more private spaces for that?

Why must it be the palace gardens for... this?

giantanimal: (when we exit a pool)

Damen | Captive Prince | Sylph

[personal profile] giantanimal 2024-12-07 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Grand Masquerade

Damen looks and feels more like a prince than he has in a long time. He wears a gold chiton under a red cloak, his opal broach securing the loose garment at his shoulder. A gold mask covers the top half of his face.

It isn't long before he pushes the mask up off his face. He's more comfortable talking to people he can see and too much of a soldier to be happy with his vision impeded. His wariness, though, remains hidden by a different sort of mask. He's cheerful and willing to talk and dance and eat, and if he keeps track of where all the exits are, no one else needs to know. Unless disaster comes, of course.

Sky's Ascension

Damen has always enjoyed sports. When faced with one he's never attempted before, he's immediately ready to try. He does well, too. There are some close calls, but his natural strength and agility combined with his tactical soldier's mind give him the skill to deal with the unexpected. It's nothing like riding Okton, but it has the same combination of mind and body and deadly stakes. He's having fun.

And, perhaps, that makes him overconfident. Or perhaps all the preparation in the world wasn't going to prepare him for a platform simply vanishing when he wasn't expecting it. Suddenly, he's falling.

Before he can even scream, he's back at the start, flat on his back. After a stunned beat, he laughs, pulling himself up.

"A real challenge!" He grins. "I want to go again."

[ arrival & drinks ]

He wakes with a start, blinking his eyes and peering carefully at the tavern's room. It's been some time since he's been in one, and he definitely did not have enough to drink the night before to not remember finding a room to stay in. It's questionable, as he rubs his eyes, that this could be an elaborate prank or a dream that he's not woken up from, but it all felt too real for it to be so.

It's minutes before he's downstairs, the slip of parchment he found on the table next to his bed the only indication of what's gone on. He speaks with the tavernkeeper for a few minutes, asking questions he definitely has. There's too many questions rattling off in his brain, and none of the answers answer them all.

He's handed a drink, something warm and spiced that calms him down. "I'm not awake enough for these tricks right now..."

Fit Check: Outfit, Mask

Cullen absolutely hated parties.

This was not his forte. He was not well-suited for gatherings, parties, or being charismatic of any sort. Give him a sword and a shield and tell him to hit things? He was your man. Not once was he ever prepared to converse with people on the finer things in life. There had been one other party before this, at Val Royeaux, which had also been a disaster for him. He remembered Leliana and Josephine telling him about the women who talked about him all night, teasing him about it.

He never did plan his revenge on them for that. Did Leliana and Josephine deserve it? Not really, but it would be fun enough.

Cullen, ever so much the wallflower, kept to himself as he wantered the edges of the room. He's not particularly paying attention to anything, just simply existing in the space.

He finds himself first in the gardens. He's not the best at cultivating gardens or have a green thumb, but he does appreciate the calmness of the area. Here there isn't any dancing or music, but the calmness of the flowers and the air. This is what he needs at that very moment.

Later on, he finds himself on the palace's terrace, near the platforms. He watches as others take part in the challenge, looking carefully on. It's risky, but looks no different than something they'd use to train in the Inquisition. He says, to the nearest person, "How far do you think the fall is?"

Festival cheer (arrival)

Clink. The drink on the bartop has a layer of crushed red and white candy all around the edge of the glazed brown mug. He wraps his hands around it and lets the warmth seep into his hands. He sat on the left side of the bar at the edge.

He’d picked a spot where he could get a good look at anyone coming or going. He’d exhausted every question he could with the bartender. He lifts the mug to his lips and takes a sip. His eyes widens. He sets it down as he glances around.

And his body glows a dark blue like a Christmas light. He studies his reflection in the polished bartop then looks to the person that sat down next to him. “Do your drinks usually have interesting side effects like this? Or is this a special of this bar?”

Season of Lights

The lights need checked to ensure they continue to burn through out the season. With nothing better to do and no desire to examine what this season means and why it hurts to consider, Kaeya is lending a hand. Bundled up against the cold, he checks a light as he was instructed to do and repairs the string holding another up.

A large family bustles by, singing and laughing. He watches them go with a blank expression. He has been easy words and casual smiles since he got here. But that ripped it right off his face.

He sighs, makes an excuse and walks away. “The lights further down look like they need some adjustments.” He might run into. Or swiftly adjust to stride quickly past. Either way, the choice is yours on which it is.

The Grand Masquerade

Parties are the best place to get the lay of the land. Without status to lean on, or authority to pull from, he has to go back to the beginning. It is a bit like being undercover and that suits him just fine. No pressure.

But that doesn’t mean he can’t be a little flashy. His wolf mask is looks carved from permafrost with swirls of darkness to keep his identity secure. The left edge is marked by a faint edge of gold like an eclipse on a cold winter night.

He walks the grand ballroom, his overcoat and the suit beneath matching his mask. He drifts from conversation to conversation. Sometimes he pauses away from the bustle of the party and looks, well, like a wolf observing the world beyond the forest and trying to decide how he feels about it.

But later he can found at the water garden. Again, his easy smiles are gone. He stares at the water, silent as the undines flitting about. Whatever is going on in his mind, if he notices someone looking lost or looking for a space, he steps to the side and motions them over. He nods once and turns back to the view. But in a low voice, “Felt the draw too, did you?”

He can’t pass up a moment to get a little more information.

Joie has never been much of a party person, especially ones of this caliber. But she makes an exception, just this once for those who she knows might worry for her if she were to stay traveling around Caldera much longer.

Noctis Lucis Caelum | Final Fantasy XV | Sylph (Current Character)

[personal profile] chosenkingoflucis 2024-12-11 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Season of Lights

Although there are similar holidays in Insomnia to the Season of Light, Noctis is still impressed by all of the festivities. He's familiar with the tradition of gift giving as well and if you've interacted with him, you may receive a gift of fish wrapped in wax paper for the Feast of the Sky. Look, he's not crafty and fishing is his hobby, so fish it is!

The Grand Masquerade

Noctis isn't the most social person, but, being royalty, he's been to many parties like this. Dressed in blue and gold, an appropriately Lucian mask in black and gold adorning his face, he'll still try to engage. Perhaps he'll ask you to dance? Maybe you'll schmooze with him by the refreshment table? Or when the socializing gets to be too much, he'll steal away somewhere outside to unwind. Don't worry, he won't mind some company.

The Sky's Ascension

This would be so much easier if he could point warp. Still, he didn't spend years training his agility to avoid getting his ass beat by Gladio. Time to put that training to work!

He takes a running leap onto the first island, skidding to a stop. Next, Noctis hops to the next piece of land as half of it falls away. He manages to grab onto the remaining land, dangling for a moment before he pulls himself up and onto the wedge and breathes a sigh of relief. Standing, he prepares for the next leap.
