It feels like being too close to Angband for comfort, if he's being honest with himself. The forrest has that same oppressive and malevolent atmosphere as the lands around that terrible place does, as well as the uncanny feeling that something that want's to hurt you is watching you.
The swirling energy almost has him turning around at the sight of it, his mind screaming that it is a trick. Like the ones Sauron would play on him during his captivity. He shoves that thought down, though, he'll do neither of them any good if he panicks here.
When Finnick picks up the locket and the energy coalesces into a portal he thinks he's starting to understand the game they've been forced into, and it makes him grateful that they decided to keep the mementos they'd come across. That is, of course, if he's not wrong and this is a trick.
"Do... do you think it's real?" He asks, not entirely sure whether or not they should trust it.
