Barcus waits, letting Maedhros read the situation before he answers, but looks relieved at the response. He can get through places, could go down there and tie a rope to the child easily enough, but he can't carry him.

"It would be wise for me to stay and guard the rope, under these circumstances. See what you can do, and if you need me to come tie the boy to you, I will, but if not, I'll stand here and keep watch." Already he's making moves to tie off one of the ropes, clearly experienced with knots and anchoring such things.
