If the cathedral is anything like the cathedrals in my world, the bulk of the building is open to allow for worshippers to listen to a sermon but there are smaller closed off rooms for private worship or offices. Potentially a basement or attic if not both as well."

The much smaller building would have multiple rooms and potentially floors but it'd still be a quicker search.
