Maybe that side of Dimitri will always be there, no matter the world. But the fact that he only walked away after hearing Felix killed his father (in battle, where mercy was not offered or would have been accepted by either party regardless) is a sign that this is a man who may still have demons, but isn't controlled by them. The kind of man she wishes their Dimitri could have been. Haunted maybe, but also at a kind of peace with it.

"I suppose I shall have to hope for a similar reaction when I tell him that I was forced to kill Ashe during the final battle." It's doubtful the reaction will be quite as strong as it would be to Lord Rodrigue, given the man practically raised Dimitri after King Lambert's death, but would still be a blow in the face of someone who looked like a friend. Ashe was a kind soul, but there'd been no turning him away. Maybe he'd just lost too much at that point.

Ingrid puts her hands on her hips in a mirror of Felix crossing his arms over his chest. "I didn't say anything about a desk and paperwork. I know you better than that, Felix." But after a moment, she drops her arms and sighs.

"You're my only friend from childhood left. My oldest friend now, in fact. I just want to know you're finding meaning in your life. Some kind contentment. You deserve that much after everything."
