To say that Beleth was surprised that Ashton had such a radically different upbringing than her would be untrue -- she had learned long ago that not everyone was raised as the Dalish were, where every child, from their first breath, was taught that the strength of the clan was the strength of the clan's unity. They must stick together and aid one another, or they would surely die in their hostile and hateful world.

Though she was not surprised, she was nevertheless disappointed. What a cruel way to raise a child.

"I have found, in my experience, that the greatest surety of survival lies not in the strength of a single person, but the strength of reliable people around them. They could have, at least, had a mind to properly bury you. Or however you treat your dead."

The next part does surprise her, however.

"Dorian killed him--?" The Dorian who had aided her in the healing tents, fretted over her well being, who had kindly escorted her home when she'd gotten a little too carried away with the strange coffee in the tavern? Killed a retreating man in a...gross manner?

You think you know a guy. Huh.

"Well, I'm glad your friend was avenged. It sounds like you went through quite the adventure after that, though. You'll have to tell me about it some time."
