She felt the same pang he did because she had been raised much the same without realizing it now but she'd had her rude awakening. It helped to have some distance from it now but there was a chill as she turned away from the speech as it started to wind down. She hadn't questioned authority before, not seriously and not until she found out the horrible truth. Sometimes it was easy to slip into that willful blindness to focus on her happiness but how long could that last?

"I'm not sure any of them have," she shrugged as she started to ease away from the crowd. "And now there's a new one?"
