Honestly, Keyleth doesn't know too much about the drow of her own world. She's encountered Duergar and Mindflayers in the Underdark, but not drow.
So she genuinely believes him.
"What did you do with the child? Were you raising them yourself?"
She could see where it would be difficult to figure out what to do next if you had a child to worry about. Especially a child prophet?
