Rook didn't bother giving him a head start, because she knew he was faster than her, so what would be the point. She did wait until he was almost free to start yelling, "Hey! Stop! He's getting away!" At least she didn't have to pretend to be winded from the chase, because an actress and a good liar she was not; she kept the story simple for that very reason. She tried to stop the thief. He got away. Drat! Curses!
Anyway. She spent a little of her newly acquired coin (bones?) on a shoulder harness, and for good measure, a staff and a sling to carry it on her back. Feeling better armed, at least, Rook slipped into the tavern, feeling a bit awkward and on the spot; while it made complete sense that this was the sort of place Lucanis would choose to bunker down in, the scant number of customers meant her entrance was more noted than she'd have liked. Still, she kept her head down and moved to the table where Lucanis was sitting, dropping into the chair across from him. "How's the food here?" she asked, leaning her new staff against the wall. "I'm starving."
